I have been in search of a “scone” recipe, and took some one recipe, changed some things, and added some things and came up with this. YUMMMM OOOOO, they are fantastic!
*1/2 cup sour cream
*1/2 teaspoon baking soda
*2 cups all-purpose flour
*1/2 cup white sugar
*2 teaspoons baking powder
*1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
*1/2 teaspoon salt
*1/2 cup unsalted butter room temp
*1 egg
*1/2 cup Craisins
*1 zest of medium orange
In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda, and set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet, or line with parchment paper, which is what I do.
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in the butter. Stir the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture until just moistened. Mix in the Craisins and orange zest.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly.  Pat dough into a 3/4 inch thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown on the bottom.
I brushed the tops of mine with a egg wash, and sprinkled a packet of “Sugar in the Raw” on it, or you can use the “Sparkling Sugar” You usually can find this in the baking isle of your grocery store.
These freeze well, and you can make them, and cut into wedges, and freeze, and then take them out to bake when your ready.
